'Bubbles all that's left' after Florida Gator Nabs Dog

Belle Glade, FL - June 21, 2006: A local man reported that he had been walking his 50-pound dog by the bank of the canal on Southwest 11th Street when an alligator came out of the water and seized his pet.

He estimated the alligator was seven to eight feet long. Interim Police Chief Calipto Gonzalez made it to the scene in time to still see bubbles in the water from the attack.

Despite efforts to capture the alligator, it remains at large. Chief Gonzalex warns parents to be careful and watchful with their children playing near canals. Having attacked once before, he noted there remains a possibility that the alligator may attack again.
