Pinos Altos, NM - 25 June 2008: Mountain Lion Kills, Eats Man

After a warning from the victim's brother, a search party has located the body of Robert Nawojski, 55, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish said. Evidence indicated that Nawojski had been attacked and killed by a mountain lion at a spot close to his home.

He lived alone and was known to bathe and shave outdoors. Reuters has the story, as does Fox News.

Meanwhile, KOAT News is reporting that other residents of the Pinos Altos area (in Grant County, NM, about 65 miles east of Albuquerque) are fearful, since the mountain lion involved is still at large.

Marathon Key, FL - 20 Mar 2008: Eagle Ray Attacks, Kills Woman On Boat

An Eagle Ray has killed a 55-year-old Michigan woman on a boat near Marathon Key, Florida. The woman was boating with her family when the ray - a species which grows to 500 pounds and sports a ten-foot wingspan - leaped from the water and reportedly struck her in the neck with its barbed tail.

She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Telegraph reports on a near-miss salt-water crocodile attack in Northern Australia.

The incident was captured on video. No injuries were reported.

"One minute I was leaning over the boat teasing it for a picture. The next minute it burst out of the water with incredible speed ... its jaws fully open. I was shaking,'' said Novon Mashiah, 27, the man in the photo at left. "The animal clearly wanted to kill me."

Mountain lion shot to death in Los Gatos backyard

Authorities shot and killed a mountain lion that was hiding in the backyard of a Los Gatos home Monday night. The animal had been seen several times in the area around the 14000 block of Lora Drive, where it was killed Monday evening, said state Department of Fish and Game spokesman Harry Morse. He said police and a Fish and Game warden had decided to shoot the cat after determining it was posed a public safety risk, as the neighborhood includes a large apartment complex where children play outside. The tiger that killed a visitor and mauled two others at the San Francisco Zoo this week may have simply scaled its exhibit's wall to attack the three, a top U.S. tiger expert said on Friday.
